Sunday, Sunday, so good to me…
It’s been another hectic week in the Land of Smiles — we’ve had a toilet python biting a man’s ding-dong in Bangkok, the launch of Facebook Dating, and rumours that vaping may finally be legalised in the Kingdom.
Let’s see what else has been entertaining and enraging Bangkok this week…

Frenchman and Thai girlfriend jailed for murder of her Italian ex-husband
Amaury Rigaux and his girlfriend Rujira Eiumlamai, 34 and 38 respectively, were each sentenced to 14.5 years in prison for the murder of Giuseppe de Stefani, a 61-year old Italian man and Rujira’s ex-husband. The original sentence was for 29 years each but this was halved following their confessions.
Frenchman Rigaux had apparently got into a fight with de Stefani in January this year in Phichit, over his relationship with the Thai woman, where he stabbed him in the neck and later burned the body.
HIV+ soldier arrested for alleged rape of 70+ teenage boys
43-year old Sgt Maj Jakkrit Khomsing was arrested this week in Khon Kaen for the alleged blackmail and rape of over 70 teenage boys, aged between 13 and 18. Police found HIV treatment medication in his home following the arrest and medical tests later confirmed he was HIV positive.
Apparently Jakkrit would use fake social media and dating profiles to lure in victims, encouraging them to send him nude photos and then blackmail them for sex when they met up and discovered he was not who he appeared to be online by threatening to leak the photos.
Police are attempting to discover if there are any more potential victims.
Thai man lay nude on Jomtien Beach in order to win back ex-girlfriend
A strange doomed love story here of 42-year old Tongbai Soiprom, who was discovered lying naked on the pavement next to Jomtien Beach with a crushed bouquet of roses.
Tongbai had apparently just broken up with his girlfriend and was attempting to make his ex regret leaving him by showing off his body.
He was eventually charged with public obscenity.

How to teach young kids as a male teacher in Thailand
An interesting post here on the Ajarn blog on one man’s experience teaching young kids (ages 5 and 6) in a Thai school, and his tips for making the most of the opportunity.
The author also discusses a hot topic that’s been bouncing around social media for the past few weeks: men teaching very young kids. There are some surprisingly old-fashioned views on the subject from both Thai parents and expats in the Thailand teaching community, who only want female teachers looking after younger children.
As far as we can understand, this is a bizarre attitude — why would you be happy with a man teaching a 10-year old, 12-year old, 15-year old child, but not a younger one? What is it that makes a man unsuitable to teach young kids? Speaking from personal experience, some of the best primary school teachers we had back in the UK were men, and it’s surely important to expose your child to a variety of different people as they grow up and learn about the world.

Do all Thai girls expect you to pay for everything?
A classic Reddit thread here on that most delicate of subject matters between Westerners and Thais in relationships — finances. The original poster here pays for most of his girlfriend’s expenses bar her car payments and shopping trips, and wants to know if that’s the normal situation.
There are plenty of different views and experiences discussed in thread, but it ultimately boils down to whatย youย are happy with paying for and how much you want your girlfriend to contribute. Some men may like having the ‘sugar daddy’ role of paying for everything, whereas others are keener on a more equal split when it comes to finances.
One thing we would say is to set your boundaries early on in the relationship — don’t try and institute a 50/50 split two years in if you’ve previously been paying for everything without expecting repercussions. And if your girlfriend can pay for a car but expects you to pay her rent, you may be being taken for a ride…
Where do you see Thailand 10 years from now?
Here Thaivisa members are discussing where they think the country is headed 10 years from now — will Bangkok still look like Bangkok? Will the military still be in power?
Look out for plenty of cynical observations about Thai obsession with wealth, how Bangkok is only going downhill and how it offers less and less value for money.

I’m not sure how I feel about sitting in a #Bangkok Starbucks that is blasting “Silent Night” directly after “Winter Wonderland.”
It’s November.
It’s also 34C out.

And when I was at the local immigration office, I purposely asked them about the rule, and they couldn’t explain it to me. As I often say – it all depends which way the wind is blowing on any given day. Another guy I know was given a telling off but no fine. Go figure. https://t.co/afwYmZx8K1
