Darel Davenport, the popular owner of Soi Cowboy’s Dollhouse bar, has died in a tragic accident after falling 39 floors from his condo unit.
The 54-year old had forgotten his keys upon his return home and had arranged with his neighbour to climb over the adjoining balcony into his own room. Davenport, who was suffering from an injured and infected ankle according to photos on his Facebook page, fell from the Sukhumvit Soi 19 condo into the second floor of a nearby house.
Police found his fingerprints on the outside of the wall so ruled his death an accident, despite his room looking as though it may have been ransacked, according to Stickboy.
Viewed as one of the most prominent characters of the Cowboy bar scene, Davenport had shown signs of mental distress in recent weeks – making headlines on New Year’s Eve when members of his staff apparently attacked him with bottles when he tried to repeat the New Year countdown.
Since then he has fired and tried to replace a large number of Dollhouse staff, and been caught up in other shenanigans between Bangkok and Pattaya. He has also been documenting his problems with his infected ankle from a year-old injury on Facebook, with many of his friends urging him to seek medical help.
Rambling, semi-coherent and out-of-context public posts have been a regular occurrence on his Facebook page of late while the Bangkok Post report that he had been struggling with addictions to cocaine and other drugs for a while.
All reports of Davenport’s death mention the pleas and efforts of friends to help him get back on track before this accident, and it’s clear he will be sorely missed.
