Army Veteran Falls To His Death At Bangkok Shopping Mall, Reportedly Suicide

Ex-soldier Sawat Yata fell to his death from the fifth floor of the Silom Complex on Thursday afternoon.

After reviewing the CCTV evidence and witness testimony, police have determined his death to be suicide, reports Khaosod English.

55-year old Mr Sawat removed his shoes before he fell to the first floor around 4.30pm yesterday. He was killed instantly as he fell into a goods kiosk for the Muji brand who were conducting a clearance sale on the first floor.

The centre was very crowded due to the highly anticipated sale and shoppers in the vicinity were understandably very shocked after the incident.

Muji have since paid their condolences to the deceased and halted their sale out of respect for the dead man.

Pol Capt Pitinan Kaewduangpian, duty officer at Thung Maha Mek police station, has confirmed that Mr Sawat is a local man. Police will be speaking to the man’s relatives in an attempt to establish his motivations. It is unknown at this point whether the fact that his death came just a day after the annual Veterans’ Day had any bearing on his state of mind.
