We love Hot Sauce Bangkok.
Spearheaded by events mogul Sam Choksi, the specialist party company invited us to one of their notorious Soi 11 bar crawls last Friday night.
If you’re after a good night out with plenty of drinks and a diverse, friendly crowd, you can’t go wrong with a Hot Sauce event. They’re well managed, great value and – most importantly – really good fun.
These guys love a theme and last Friday it was ‘Black And White’.
We’re not usually ones for fancy dress but a monochromatic dress code is something we can certainly get behind. Not only is it easy to participate in – who hasn’t got a bit of black and white in their wardrobe? – but it looks good and is easy to spot the other members of the crawl in a busy bar.
Previous Hot Sauce themes include Enchanted Forest, Masquerade, Halloween, Italiano Sociale and even a 1920s Prohibition era party.
We, er, couldn’t locate our flapper dresses that night.
Anyway – let’s talk about Friday.
Hot Sauce’s route was a Soi 11 classic; we started in The Game – a sports bar adjacent to Nana BTS – before trundling down to W XYZ Bar at the Aloft Hotel, before tumbling into the cosy Wolff’s and then finally ending the night at the brilliant Nest rooftop.
Simple? Sure. But the charm was in the details.
Hot Sauce don’t only arrange the route and send you on your merry way – they arrange some great drinks deals, make sure movement between bars is smooth and unrushed, while encouraging people to mingle and meet new people among the other crawlers.
The crawl certainly attracts a large and diverse array of guests in both nationality and profession, serving as a useful networking opportunity – as long as you don’t go too heavy on those W XYZ Whisky Sours (my bad).
They’ve got a couple more events up their sleeve before the close of 2015 – another Soi 11 bar crawl on December 25 with an inevitable ‘Sexy Santa’ theme – and a brand new event concept: the Adult Play Date.
Launching tomorrow, Adult Play Date will be taking you back to your childhood with an adult twist – think ice cream cocktails and ping pong tournaments in a fantastic Thonglor location. It’s free entry so get down and check it out!
The What’s On Sukhumvit Soi 11 Bar Crawl™
While we loved Hot Sauce’s version of a Soi 11 bar crawl – namely, starting casual before winding up to a full party atmosphere in one of Bangkok’s best rooftop bars – it got us thinking about how a What’s On Sukhumvit curated bar crawl might look.
We enjoy a night on the sauce as much as the next Sukhumvit resident so we’d be kicking back with a few at the following pitstops…
Cheap Charlie’s
A Soi 11 staple and a Bangkok institution.
Sure, it’s pretty small and could be easily taken over by a large group but the people watching opportunities and cheap drinks are the perfect icebreaker for any awkward first drinks with new people.
Old German Beerhouse
Now, here’s a good spot to have a sit down and chat further with any new acquaintances made.
It’s still pretty laid back and casual at the OGB so there’s plenty of opportunity to mingle and chew the fat.
There’s a good selection of beer and – if you’re feeling peckish –there’s a fine selection of German cuisine just an order away.
Bratwurst, anyone?
Oskar
While we enjoyed the third bar on Hot Sauce’s crawl – Wolff’s – we’d opt for somewhere a little larger and livelier for our penultimate pitstop.
Oskar Bistro has managed to capture that magic in a bottle atmosphere that comes from a sophisticated clientele, great music and a cracking cocktail list. It’s a good spot to get you revved up and in the mood for…
Above Eleven
With amazing views over Bangkok, world renowned DJs and reasonably priced drinks, ending the What’s On Sukhumvit Soi 11 bar crawl at Above Eleven and Gramercy Park is a no-brainer.
The rooftop bar holds regular events like Red Bull Mondays, Dancing Under The Stars and Funky Freeland with special drinks deals and international guest DJs. Check out the What’s On Sukhumvit event listings for all the latest parties.
Bonus!
Of course, why let the evening end there? If you’re feeling fruity and hell bent on a rager, it’s on to Levels above the Aloft Hotel to finish the night.
You won’t see us there, sadly. We’ve got a date with a box of chicken nuggets and a McFlurry…
