Sensational, sleazy and sexy, the raunchy red lights districts of Bangkok are an undeniable part of the throbbing heart of the Thai capital.
Thailand’s sex industry is infamous, and Nana Plaza in the centre of Bangkok in lower Sukhumvit is one of the world’s most notorious adult entertainment zones.
Thais and foreigners alike flock here in their thousands just to experience the spectacle – and many more come to indulge their sexual desires…
What is Nana Plaza?
In case you were in any doubt, Nana Plaza Bangkok is strictly for adults only.
There are no restaurants here and no markets — save for a handful of street food carts that gather outside on Sukhumvit Soi 4 — instead three storeys of pink neon fantasy thrust gaudily upwards around the small central square. Scantily clad girls and ladyboys tease and titillate, each vying for your attention (and custom).
They work the multitude of go-go bars that make up Nana Plaza — go-go bars that have the reputation as some of the world’s best.
It goes without saying that prostitution and the suggestion of it is rife, and pretty much anything goes. There’s no prejudice here, and that’s a big part of the appeal for many of the tourists who come to taste the exotic delights on offer.
Nana Plaza is a very popular spot with tourists of all nationalities and sexes, but most particularly with older white males.
Thirty or so bars make up the Plaza, and they offer myriad entertainments. Open air beer bars on the ground floor have pool tables, big screen TVs and inviting bar girls who are happy to join you if you buy them a drink.
Elsewhere DJs spin tunes for the girls on the dancefloor, and there are a host of go-go dancers, coyote dancers, strippers, and other tantalising live shows. Many girls in the shows will make themselves available for ‘extra’ activities, and can be taken out of the bar after payment of a bar fee (the girl’s time with a client is negotiated separately and is paid for in addition to the bar fee).
On level 2, Angelwitch is known for a friendly atmosphere and some of the best live performances in Nana by dancers clad in black leather and suspenders. It’s a rock bar, so expect to hear them blasting out some rock classics.
Super busy Spankys is a popular place to party too. Girls dance routines on stage, and there is also a shower cubicle performance, plus girl-on-girl sex shows. On level 3, the glitzy Billboard Agogo Bar has a huge number of girls and features a jacuzzi show and a rotating dancefloor.
To check out some ladyboys head to Casanova, Temptations or Obsession on level 2 which has a large center stage and a relaxed atmosphere.
