Sukhumvit Soi 21

Asok Montri Road, or Sukhumvit Soi 21, is one of the major arteries of central Bangkok and a huge long road that links up with Ratchada, Phetchaburi, Rama IV and other major highways. For our purposes though, we’re just going to focus on the stretch of road between Terminal 21 on the Asok intersection, down to the San Saeb canal.

As such an important road, it’s no surprise that there are plenty of hotels, office blocks and apartment buildings down here, as well as a few interesting subsois — including the infamous red light district, Soi Cowboy.

Soi 21 is also one of the few locations in Bangkok that benefits from being the change point between the BTS and MRT. Both the BTS Asok and MRT Sukhumvit stops are located here.

Let’s have a look at the soi’s highlights…

Pullman Bangkok Grande

Hotel

Relatively recently opened is the huge, international Pullman hotel chain around halfway down Sukhumvit Soi 21. This is a 5* hotel which boasts luxury facilities and accommodation to match: a gym, spa, pool, sauna, 3 restaurants, a bar and huge meeting room capabilities.

There are 325 rooms and suites on site which benefit from free WiFi, 24 hour room service and incredible city views.

Kamthieng House

Museum

kamthieng house

Kamthieng House is a preserved Lanna Kingdom home that dates back to 1848 when it was built on the Ping River in Chiang Mai. Now the property of the Siam Society, Kamthieng is a fascinating insight into traditional Thai life and the Lanna culture.

Also on Soi 21 is the indomitable Terminal 21 shopping mall — beloved by locals and tourists alike thanks to its crazy airport style design and high-end meets market fashion and goods.

Very popular too is Pier 21: the resident food court. The food is plentiful and delicious, as well as cheap!

Pala Pizza

Restaurant

Directly underneath Asok BTS station is the brilliant Pala Pizza — a popular and high-quality pizzeria that sells by the slice as well as by the whole.

About Eatery

Restaurant

Located on Sukhumvit 21 Soi 3, About Eatery is a relatively new entrant to the Asok dining scene which claims to be Thailand’s first natural wine bar and restaurant.

The cuisine is comfort food with Mediterranean influences while the wines are organic, biodynamic and natural. There are also craft beers available.

Kuppadeli

Coffee Shop/Cafe

Kuppadeli is one of Bangkok’s favourite coffee shops and this branch on Sukhumvit Soi 21 can be found at the front of Asoke Towers.

As well as their premium signature blends, they also offer single origin coffees from Africa and South America. The deli section serves up breakfast and wholesome, healthy meals throughout the day.
